Why call this album Seasons? To answer this, let me go back to the first album "Songs with Stories." Why use that name? Some of the feedback from the first album was that people expected to hear stories on the album - some songs, some stories.
Picking an album name is always tricker than I think! I record a collection of work, put some aside as too rough or not for now, and then I have what seems like a random collection of music. For "Songs with Stories," as I was trying to decide on an album title, I found myself explaining the story behind each song, why it was written or arranged, and what I wanted to share through the music. What stood out to me most was that each song had a story to it's creation.
Fast forward 8-10 years. I once again have a seemingly random collection of finished work that needs to be unified with one summary title. After the many twists and turns of 2020, I found myself saying "in this season I..." or "not in this season...." The imagery of a season being a non-exact period of time with a soft beginning and a soft end became more understandable to me.
I recognized this in the collection of songs for the album. Some are outright about a holiday - Thanksgiving or Independence day. Others are about seasons of time, or emotions. Life's Eventide, separation, or security. And thus, as my own life began to take on seasons, defined by my life journey, the album took on the same name too - bringing the listener to moments to think about the many prevalent, but undefined seasons we all walk through.
