Well, that was a bit of an exaggeration.... however in one day, I found out that two of my friends at work were moving on to new projects the following year. We often get disappointing news, but that particular day, I got the same news twice in a span of just a few hours.
So it may be a bit mellow-dramatic to say "My Friends are Leaving," but that afternoon it was quite in the forefront of my mind.
The two hymns "God Leads Us Along" and "God Will Take Care of You" seemed to weave themselves together at the piano in that season of change.
The first hymn
Some through the water, some through the flood
Some through the fire, but all through the blood
And some through great sorrow, but God gives the song
In the night season and all the day long"
The second says
God will take care of you/ Through everyday o'er all the way
He will care for you/ God will take care of you
And lastly, they're framed with the slightly exaggerated, but well expressed words from Barry Manilow
...I can't smile without you/ I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing/ I'm finding it hard to do anything"
God's there on the days my friends are leaving; I'll still miss them.
And as a bonus on this track, I was joined on guitar by Christopher Finn - one of my two guest artists on the album!
